Studies show that 60% -70% of patients with symptoms of heartburn have a non-erosive disease, while about 40% have esophagitis. History is thus very important. Including whether the patient had heartburn in the last seven days, whether they used some drugs for these symptoms, and whether they had hoarse and a chronic cough, difficulty swallowing, or significant weight loss. The control of acid secretion is the most effective way to achieve relief from heartburn and other symptoms as well as to regulate body weight, avoid tight clothing, avoid foods that cause reflux, kick alcohol and caffeine, stop smoking, and to sleep on an elevated headboard. The goal of therapy is to provide relief from heartburn, enabling the longer remission, treatment of complications and healing of esopha-gitis, since it will thus improve the quality of life of patients.
