well as two regional associations: the
Pan-American Gastroenterological Association
(OPGE) and the Interamerican
Society of Digestive Endoscopy
(SIED). These organizations were led
in this endeavor by their Presidents,
respectively: Drs. Flavio Antonio
Quilici, Flávio Hayato Ejima, Nicolau
Gregori Czeczko, Jose Roberto de Almeida
and Júlio Carlos Pereira Lima.
The over 7,000 participants
were able to access both congresses
simultaneously. The two scientific
programs were fully integrated with
pre-congress courses, conferences,
round tables, symposia and interactive
sessions, as well as the presentation of
oral and poster presentations, addressing
all areas of gastroenterology and
endoscopy.
The International Course on
Diverticular Disease, the OPGE
Postgraduate Course and the International
Course on Microbiology were
great successes. The rooms where they
were held were filled with people who
were interested in new education,
taking advantage of a robust program
of topics of real interest for the doctor
in his/her daily routine of patient
care. In addition to over 700 speakers
from Brazil itself, over 100 speakers
from other American countries
also presented: Argentina, Bolivia,
Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican
Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala,
Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua,
Paraguay, Panama, Peru, United
States, Uruguay and Venezuela. This
helped make the congresses truly
“Pan-American”! Additionally, faculty
came from Canada, Denmark, France,
