peak on Saturday the 28th
and continued with various
chapters in August and
September.
The World Hepatitis Day this year
was celebrated across the length and
breadth of Nigeria in a most remarkable
manner. Members of the Society
for Gastroenterology and Hepatology
in Nigeria (SOGHIN) in virtually all
the state capitals and outskirts came
out en masse to create awareness on
the need to ELIMINATE HEPATITIS,
which is the theme for this year’s
event.
World Hepatitis Day is an awareness
campaign organized by the
World Hepatitis Alliance. It is
celebrated every 28 July to bring
about the awareness of the global
burden of viral hepatitis, with the
primary campaign goal of eliminating
viral hepatitis by 2030, estimating
that 300 million people around the
world are unaware that they’re living
with viral hepatitis. The worldwide
campaign for 2018 focused on “Finding
the Missing Millions”, a three-year
global awareness-raising and advocacy
campaign aimed at tackling the main
barriers to diagnosis by putting civil
society organizations and the affected
community at the heart of the solution.
