Message from the Editors
We welcome the new year, but with the sad news of Dr.
Richard Fedorak’s death. Please read the obituary; even
if you did not know him, we know that his impact will
remain.
On a more positive note, the meeting in Thailand was a
huge success, with excellent attendance and programming.
It is time to plan for World Digestive Health Day
(WDHD) for this year. The focus of WDHD 2019 is
Early Diagnosis and Treatment of GI Cancer. Please consider
organizing events to advocate for and raise awareness of
the early diagnosis and treatment of GI cancers throughout
2019. The campaign this year is led by WDHD 2019 Co-
Chairs, Dr. Kentaro Sugano of Japan and Dr. Joseph Sung
of Hong Kong, along with the WDHD 2019 Steering
Committee.
For ideas you may want to look at the very successful
program last year, when WDHD on May 29 was focused
on raising awareness of Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. There
were 17 celebrations in 12 countries, as well as blogs and
infographics. This issue has summaries from events in
India, Malaysia and Portugal.
Finally, please help us by giving feedback on the relevant
resources for 2018. Please take 10 minutes to fill out the
survey, even if you didn’t celebrate WDHD. Your input
will be most helpful.
