About World Digestive Health Day

Since 2005 the World Gastroenterology Organisation (WGO) has convened World Digestive Health Day (WDHD), a yearlong, global, public health, advocacy and awareness campaign. While WDHD is formally marked on May 29th around the globe, the momentum of the campaign and its component activities begin to take place at the beginning of each year and continue in earnest for the full 12-month period, and even extend into the next year!

WDHD annually focuses upon a particular digestive disorder and seeks to increase general public awareness of its prevention, diagnosis and management. The World Digestive Health Day (WDHD) theme for 2016, “Diet and the Gut”, seeks to raise awareness on ways to promote gut health, which includes celiac disease, food allergies, the role of diet in gut diseases, and food intolerance for adults and children, among other timely and important issues. For more information on WDHD 2016, please read the official campaign message from the Co-Chairs of the campaign, Drs. David Sanders and Govind Makharia by visiting: http://www.worldgastroenterology.org/wgo-foundation/wdhd/wdhd-2016/message-from-the-co-chairs.
