Guido N J Tytgat, MD, PhD

Guido N J Tytgat, MD, PhD, is currently Professor Emeritus of the department of gastroenterology-Hepatology at the University of Amsterdam´s Academic Medical Center. This department is is a leading training unit in gastroentrology-hepatology and world-renowned for diagnostic imaging, therapeutic endoscopy, basic and clinical research in esophageal columnar metaplasia, IBD, pancreatic diseases, liver diseases including gene therapy, hepatic transport mechanisms, gallstone diseases etc. Professor Tytgat is author or co-author of almost 1500 publications and several atlases and text books and book chapters. He created the European Postgraduate Gastrosurgical School in Amsterdam and is currently involved in the European Postgraduate teaching Program on behalf of the EAGE. He is a member of the Dutch National Academy of Sciences and was President of the World Gastroenterology Organisation from 2002-2005.
