IDCA Mission & Goals
The mission of the International Digestive Cancer Alliance is to promote the screening, early detection, and primary prevention of digestive cancers worldwide through an international alliance of organizations that share the same goal.
IDCA has an interest in all digestive cancers including those of the esophagus, stomach, colon and rectum, liver and pancreas. The goals will vary according to the specific cancer and country but the overall gaols are to:
- Increase awareness of Digestive Cancers
- Promote guidelines for screening and primary prevention
- Increase access to prevention and early detection
- Increase screening where appropriate
- Modify lifestyle
- Identify high risk groups
Achievement of these goals is through the assistance that IDCA provides to national societies and other interested groups. IDCA has designated March as Digestive Cancer Awareness Month worldwide.
Colorectal Cancer campaign targets:
2005 World Congress of Gastroenterology
- 75% people aware of colorectal cancer screening
- 50% screened
2009 World Congress of Gastroenterology
- Reduce incidence by 50%
- Reduce mortality by 50%
