About the World Congress of Gastroenterology

The WCOG had historically been held every four years, starting with the first World Congress in Washington, DC, USA in 1958. Traditionally, the World Congress has rotated between three regions: the Americas, Europe, and Asia Pacific. For Congresses organized after 2017, this regional rotation will be extended to include the Africa/Middle East region. View the congress history. In 2017, the World Congress officially moved to a two-yearly schedule.

The call for bids for the 2023 WCOG is now closed.

For further information about the bidding process and/or to request a copy of the bidding manual, please contact the WGO Secretariat at info@worldgastroenterology.org.

Please note that applications to host a World Congress can only be considered from WGO Member Societies. Final ratification of the venue of a World Congress, as recommended by the WGO Governing Council, is made by the WGO General Assembly.
