The next World Congress of Gastroenterology, the World Congress of Gastroenterology 2019, will be held in partnership with The Turkish Society of Gastroenterology (TSG), 21-24 September 2019 in Istanbul, Turkey!
The WCOG had historically been held every four years, starting with the first World Congress in Washington, DC, USA in 1958. Traditionally, the World Congress has rotated between three regions: the Americas, Europe, and Asia Pacific. For Congresses organized after 2017, this regional rotation will be extended to include the Africa/Middle East region. View the congress history.
In 2017, the World Congress officially moved to a two-yearly schedule. The call for bids for the 2021 WCOG is now closed. The call for bids for the 2023 WCOG will open in 2018. Applications to host a World Congress can only be considered from WGO member societies. Final ratification of the venue of a World Congress is made at the WGO General Assembly.
