Professor Michael Fried

Michael Fried currently holds the position of Director of the Division of Gastroenterology at the University Hospital in Zurich, Switzerland. He studied at the Universities of Berlin and Munich in Germany from 1971 to 1977 after which followed periods of research and residency training at various units in Germany, Switzerland and the UCLA School of Medicine in Los Angeles. After acting as Associate Professor of Medicine at the University Hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland, Professor Fried took up his current position in Zurich in 1994. He was President of the Swiss Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology from 1998 to 2000 and has been a member of the WGO Council since 2002 and has chaired the Guidelines and Publications Committee since this time. Prof. Fried also holds a Visiting Professorship at Hanghzou University in China and is a member of various specialist departments and organisations. He holds various awards and honors including several from the Swiss Association of Gastroenterology and the Ludwig Demling Award. He has vast editorial experience as a member of various editorial boards and as publisher and reviewer for a large selection of prestigious international journals.
