Brazilian federacy of Gastroenterology (FBG) organized a major digestive health awareness campaign in partnership with the WGO. With the support of the president of the FBG, Dr. Jaime Natan Eisig, a mini-marathon (25 km.), 1ª Corpore Brazil, the Race Healthful Alive Corpore FBG was organized. The race was supported by the MSD laboratory that was proud to join forces with some local IBD associations to fight IBD in Brazil: GEDIIB (Brazilian Group of Studies of Inflammatory Illnesses in Brazil) and ABCD (Brazilian Association of Colite Ulcerativa and Doença de Crohn).

70% of India’s population lives in small towns and villages where sophisticated services and experts are not readily available. Most of the times patients having bleeding rectum are misdiagnosed with bleeding piles and are treated for the same, eventually to realize that they have some other medical problem. Hence awareness about the importance of colonoscopy as an essential diagnostic tool in rural part of India was increased, via local media and pamphlet distribution. Discounted rates were offered for these procedures during the whole month of May 2010 to get more people to take advantage of them.

On 28 May 2010 international Conference “Modern Tendencies in IBD Treatment” dedicated to WDHD took place in Moscow. The Conference was attended by IBD specialists, as well as gastroenterologists, coloproctologists, and pediatricians with participants from all over Russia starting from Russian Far East (Vladivostok city) and up to St.Petersburg. President of the Russian Coloproctology Association Professor G.I.Vorobiev stressed the importance of the given Conference and topicality of the problem, as only in unification of gastroenterologists and coloproctologists it is possible to achieve good results in treatment of this group of patients. Many reports there were devoted to high-tech therapy methods that provide high efficiency of treatment. Professor E.Quigley was the guest speaker.

In a press release, the American College of Gastroenterology has announced its support of World IBD Day (May 19) and World Digestive Health Day, (May 29), global awareness efforts that are bringing physician and patient groups together to raise awareness for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). With an emphasis on helping patients live well despite their IBD, the College is making the latest ACG practice guidelines for the management of Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis in adults available to physicians and patients via a new online IBD Resource Page, where the College also unveils a patient must-have, “ACG Expert Tips for Living Well with IBD, ” which was created by the ACG IBD Task Force.
