60th Anniversary Scientific Symposium of the
Romanian Society of Gastroenterology and
Hepatology (SRGH)
Following 60 years of
continuous and growing
activity, the Romanian
Society for Gastroenterology and Hepatology (SRGH)
reached an important landmark in its development, the
60th Anniversary Scientific Symposium. In the year when
Romania celebrates 100 years of existence, the event was
celebrated on 17 September 2018, in a highly meaningful
environment with profound cultural significance, the
National Art Museum of Romania, in Bucharest.
We also had the honor to have Professor
Cihan Yurdaydin, the President of WGO, as
a guest speaker who presented a lecture
about the organization and the relations
between WGO and national societies of
gastroenterology.
At the initiative of Professor Anca Trifan, MD, FEBGH,
FRCP, the current President of SRGH, and the National
Board of the Society, this event brought together both the
renowned senior and young gastroenterologists from various
university centers across Romania.
The scientific program was comprised of state of the art
lectures and focused on the main current issues in gastroenterological
care in Romania, including management of
Helicobacter pylori
infection, alleviating
the hepatitis C infection
burden and
improvement for the
care of inflammatory
bowel disease.
The anniversary
symposium included
the recognition
of outstanding
figures from the
national society,
who throughout
their career have
made fundamental
contributions to the development of gastroenterological
care and research.The acknowledgement of Senior Professors
was accompanied by a session covering the history and
development of each Gastroenterology Departments from
the main university centers.
For young gastroenterologists, the Anniversary Scientific
Symposium of the Romanian Society for Gastroenterology
and Hepatology represented an impressive event by having
the opportunity to learn about the history of the gastroenterology
society and its founders. They also had the
opportunity to meet Professor Carol Stanciu and Professor
Alexandru Oproiu, the pioneers of advancing gastroenterological
care in Romania, and were able to learn from their
experience and find the motivational context for bringing
further meaningful contributions in gastroenterology.
We also had the honor to have Professor Cihan Yurdaydin,
the President of WGO, as a guest speaker who
presented a lecture about the organization and the relations
between WGO and national societies of gastroenterology.
The celebration event also marked the release of the latest
Gastroenterology and Hepatology textbook for gastroenterology
trainees, aiming to bring together, in a concise
and educational manner, updated information of ground
knowledge in gastroenterology.
